Family-Friendly Things to Do in the San Antonio Area This November
November is a fantastic month in the greater San Antonio area: the weather cools down, the holiday season starts to sparkle, and there are plenty of events that make this region a fun place for families. Whether you live in San Antonio, Cibolo, Schertz, New Braunfels, Boerne, or Converse - or you’re relocating here - I’ve curated some of the best family-friendly activities this month. Use this guide to plan ahead and create memories together.
- Celebrate Culture & Remembrance - Día de los Muertos in San Antonio
When: Saturday, November 1, 2025, 3:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. (Old Town Trolley Tours)
Where: Mission Marquee Plaza, San Antonio (Old Town Trolley Tours)
Cost: Free to attend (Old Town Trolley Tours)
Why it’s great for families:
This event honors loved ones and offers rich cultural experiences including altars (ofrendas), live music, food, crafts and a film screening under the stars. It’s a meaningful, fun way for kids and adults alike to engage with tradition and community.
Insider tip: Arrive a little early so you can secure a comfortable spot for the film screening (bring a blanket or low-chair). Also parking fills fast, so plan ahead.
- Kick Off the Holidays: 44th Annual Ford Holiday River Parade & Lighting Ceremony
When: Friday, November 28, 2025 (after Thanksgiving) from ~6:00 p.m. onward (Old Town Trolley Tours)
Where: Along the San Antonio River Walk (Old Town Trolley Tours)
Cost: Free to view from public areas; premium viewing or restaurant packages available. (Old Town Trolley Tours)
Why it’s great for families:
What better way to transition into the holiday season than an illuminated boat parade, river-walk ambiance, and festive lights? Kids will be mesmerized by the floats and older family members will appreciate the relaxed yet magical setting.
Insider tip: For best free views, arrive by 5:00 p.m. Bring layers (evenings can get cool). Consider a pre-parade dinner on the River Walk to make it an evening outing.
- German-Style Fun in New Braunfels: Wurstfest 2025
When: November 7-16, 2025 (MySA)
Where: New Braunfels, TX (at Landa Park) (MySA)
Cost: Children under 12 free every day; free admission Monday-Thursday; paid Friday–Sunday. (MySA)
Why it’s great for families:
This ten-day salute to sausage, culture and fun features German-inspired food, rides, music, artisan booths and a vibrant family atmosphere. It’s a fantastic excuse for a short family road trip within your service area.
Insider tip: If you have younger kids, go Monday-Thursday when admission is free and crowd levels are more manageable. Bring cashless card info (event uses cashless system). Pick a fun ride early to avoid long waits.
- Local Shopping & Stroll: Boerne Handmade Market
When: Saturday, November 22, 2025, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. (MySA)
Where: Boerne, TX downtown area (AllEvents)
Cost: Typically free admission (you’ll just choose if you purchase from vendors)
Why it’s great for families:
Shopping local gives you a relaxed but meaningful activity: let the kids browse artisan toys or crafts while you find something unique from local vendors. It’s also a great way to show clients (or future clients) the charming communities within your region.
Insider tip: Park outside of the downtown core for easier access with strollers or young kids. Grab lunch or brunch at one of Boerne’s kid‐friendly cafés afterward.
- Veterans Day Celebration – Honoring Service & Family Time
When: Saturday, November 8, 2025, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. (Southern Living)
Where: Civic Park at Hemisfair District, San Antonio (Southern Living)
Cost: Free public event (Southern Living)
Why it’s great for families (especially veterans and military families):
Given your service background, Kristen, this is especially relevant. The event features live music, children’s activities, a flyover, and a strong sense of community. It’s a meaningful way for families to connect with local heritage, honor service, and enjoy a rich family-friendly day out.
Insider tip: Bring your American flag (small hand size) to show support. There are kids’ zones—plan to arrive early for the kid-friendly activities.
Why Living Here Makes a Difference
One of the things I love about being “San Antonio’s Veteran Realtor” is that I help families not just buy a house, but become part of a community. November in the San Antonio region gives you those community moments—festivals, parades, cultural celebrations, local markets—that make living here feel rich and connected. When I work with relocating families or veterans, I always point out how easy it is to plug into these experiences right here in San Antonio, Cibolo, Schertz, New Braunfels, Boerne or Converse.
Mark your calendar now. Whether you’re planning a family outing, looking for a weekend adventure, or helping your kids experience culture and fun locally—these five events offer something for everyone.
If you’re thinking of relocating to this area, selling your home so you can enjoy more family time, or just want a listing agent who truly understands veteran benefits, family transitions and the San Antonio market, I’m here for you.
