Things to Do in San Antonio This Weekend: August 7–9, 2026

Summer break is almost over, but there's still time to make one more weekend of memories.

With most San Antonio area school districts heading back to class over the next week, August 7–9 is one of the final opportunities to squeeze in a family outing before backpacks, homework, and school drop offs return. Whether you're looking for free events, Broadway shows, shopping, live music, or a quick Hill Country getaway, there's plenty happening across San Antonio this weekend.

As an Air Force veteran and San Antonio Realtor who's helped more than 225 families relocate here, I know that discovering local events is one of the fastest ways to feel at home. Here's what's worth adding to your calendar.

Make the Most of the Last Weekend Before School Starts

Garden Ridge Market Days & Back to School Festival

If you're only picking one free event this weekend, this should be it.

Garden Ridge Market Days transforms into a massive Back to School Festival featuring more than 200 local vendors, over 50 food trucks, live music, shopping, and plenty of activities for kids.

Families can enjoy:

🎨 Crafts and chalk art

💦 Water balloon fun

🎭 Character photo opportunities

🫧 Bubbles and games

📚 School supply donations supporting local teachers

It's one of the largest community events of the weekend, so plan to arrive early before parking fills up.

Last Chance to Catch These Popular Shows

Several summer attractions wrap up this weekend, making this your final opportunity before they're gone.

Hamilton

After a hugely successful run, Hamilton takes its final bow at the Majestic Theatre on Sunday.

If you've been waiting to experience one of Broadway's most celebrated productions, now is your chance.

Matilda: The Musical

Wonder Theatre closes its production of Matilda this weekend.

It's a fantastic choice for families looking for a fun, Broadway style performance that's entertaining for both kids and adults.

FiestaLuz Drone Show

Six Flags Fiesta Texas also wraps up its nighttime FiestaLuz drone spectacular this weekend.

More than 175 illuminated drones create an incredible synchronized light show that perfectly caps off a day at the park.

Free Family Fun Around San Antonio

There are several great no cost activities happening throughout the weekend.

Blockbusters & Bites

Watch Monsters University under the stars at The Rock at La Cantera during this free outdoor movie night.

Arrive early because the first 100 guests receive complimentary popcorn, and there will be themed activities before the movie begins.

Spurs Back to School Bash

Families with school aged children should definitely consider stopping by the Frost Bank Center.

The event includes free school supplies, student haircuts, health screenings, enrollment information, and community resources while supplies last.

rockFit at The Rock

Kick off Saturday morning with free fitness classes, wellness vendors, recovery demonstrations, and brunch options after your workout.

Whether you're a seasoned athlete or just getting started, all fitness levels are welcome.

Worth the Drive: New Braunfels

If you're planning a short day trip, New Braunfels is packed with activities this weekend.

Thinking About Relocating to San Antonio?

One thing I love sharing with my relocation clients is that San Antonio offers much more than great neighborhoods and affordable housing. Nearly every weekend brings community festivals, family activities, live entertainment, farmers markets, and Hill Country adventures just a short drive away.

As an Air Force veteran and San Antonio Realtor, I've had the privilege of helping more than 225 families make the move to Military City USA. My goal is to help you discover not only the right home, but also the experiences that make this city such a great place to live.

Enjoy one of the final weekends of summer, stay cool, and make some great memories before the school year begins!
