Things to Do in San Antonio This Weekend: August 14–16, 2026

School may be back in session for many San Antonio families, but the weekend calendar definitely isn't slowing down.

August 14–16 brings a completely different mix of things to do around San Antonio, from a huge circus weekend at the Alamodome to a free cultural festival attempting a Guinness World Record. Add in live country music, candlelight concerts, farmers markets, waterparks, Restaurant Weeks, and a few easy escapes from the August heat, and there are plenty of reasons to get out of the house.

Whether you're new to San Antonio or you've lived here for years, here's what I'd put on the radar this weekend.

🎪 The Big Family Event: Ringling Bros. Is in San Antonio

The Greatest Show on Earth takes over the Alamodome this weekend with multiple performances Friday through Sunday.

This isn't quite the circus you may remember from years ago. The reimagined Ringling Bros. experience focuses on high energy performances, acrobatics, comedy, music, and audience interaction.

Expect everything from trapeze artists and the Double Wheel of Destiny to bicycle performers creating moving human pyramids, Mongolian strength acts, Latin dance performances, and Bailey the Robo Pup.

There's also a DJ led Ringling Hype Crew experience beginning about 30 minutes before showtime, included with admission.

Saturday offers three performances at 11 AM, 3 PM, and 7 PM, giving families plenty of flexibility.

🌺 Could San Antonio Break a Guinness World Record?

One of the most interesting events of the weekend is completely FREE.

The 10th Annual San Antonio Frida Fest returns to Wonderland of the Americas Saturday and Sunday with art, culture, live performances, a huge artisan mercado, and a Frida Kahlo inspired fashion show.

But Saturday afternoon is when things get really interesting.

At 3 PM, organizers are attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Frida Kahlo.

Want to participate? You'll need a flower printed dress, red or pink shawl, three artificial flowers in your hair, and a drawn on unibrow.

Even if you're not dressing up, this should be a fun cultural event to experience with the family.

🎶 Saturday Night Has Some Seriously Good Music Options

Saturday is packed if you're looking for an adults' night out.

The Freestyle Explosion takes over Frost Bank Center with Stevie B., Lisa Lisa, The Cover Girls, TKA, Johnny O, George Lamond, Lisette Melendez, Sweet Sensation, and more.

For something completely different, the Josephine Theatre is hosting two candlelight concerts on the same evening.

The timing even makes it possible to attend both performances.

If Texas country is more your style, head to Helotes for Jon Wolfe at John T. Floore Country Store Saturday night. Logan Ryan Band takes the Floore's stage Friday evening.

🎤 A Free Celebration of Mariachi and San Antonio Culture

Another free event worth checking out Saturday is Voz de la Paloma at the Buena Vista Theater.

The annual vocal competition honors the musical legacy of Beatríz Llamas and includes competing vocalists, a live mariachi performance, and an awards ceremony.

For families who want to experience more of San Antonio's culture rather than another traditional attraction, this is a great option.

🃏 Pokémon, Anime & Collectibles Take Over Freeman Coliseum

Have a Pokémon obsessed kid or teenager?

Sunday might be their day.

Collect A Con comes to Freeman Coliseum with hundreds of vendors selling trading cards, sports memorabilia, vintage toys, comics, anime merchandise, and collectibles.

There are also celebrity appearances, autograph opportunities, trading card tournaments, panels, and cosplay.

This could easily turn into an all day outing for serious collectors.

🤠 Looking for a Texas Style Saturday Night?

Head north to Bulverde for the weekly Saturday Night Rodeo at Tejas Rodeo.

Doors open at 5 PM, with the rodeo starting at 7:30 PM. Expect bull riding, barrel racing, team roping, mutton bustin' for the kids, Texas food, and live music afterward.

🎬 Free Sunday Plans on the River Walk

The Briscoe Western Art Museum is hosting a free screening of Take It Away: The Rise and Fall of Tejano Hollywood Sunday afternoon.

The film explores The Johnny Canales Show and its influence on Tejano music and the Latino experience in America.

🍽️ San Antonio Restaurant Weeks Are Happening Now

If your ideal weekend involves food rather than festivals, this is a great time to try somewhere new.

The Summer Edition of San Antonio Restaurant Weeks runs through August 29, with participating restaurants offering special prix fixe brunch, lunch, and dinner menus.

It's a fun excuse to explore a restaurant you've had bookmarked without ordering from the regular menu.

Reservations at popular restaurants may fill quickly, especially Friday and Saturday evenings.

One important note: Bulverde Market Day is not scheduled for August 15 because it operates on the second and fourth Saturdays. Its next scheduled market is August 22.

🌊 Still Hanging Onto Summer?

School starting doesn't mean summer activities are finished.

You can still cool off at AquaGlow at Aquatica, spend a day at SeaWorld's Red, White & BBQ Festival, see the dinosaurs at Zoorassic Park at the San Antonio Zoo, or explore Dinosaurs in Motion at The DoSeum.

The Smithsonian's Starstruck immersive experience is also continuing at Rivercenter, making it an excellent indoor option when temperatures climb into the upper 90s.

New Braunfels is always an easy weekend escape from San Antonio.

Start Saturday or Sunday morning at the New Braunfels Farmers Market, then choose your adventure.

Late summer can be a great time to explore the area, especially as school schedules begin changing the weekday crowds.

☀️ Plan Around the August Heat

We're looking at temperatures around 96 to 98 degrees this weekend, so timing matters.

Morning farmers markets, evening concerts, and water activities are your best bets outdoors. For the hottest part of the afternoon, consider Ringling Bros. at the Alamodome, Collect A Con at Freeman Coliseum, Smithsonian Starstruck or SEA LIFE at Rivercenter, The DoSeum, or another indoor attraction.

And as always in August, bring water and sunscreen if you're going to be outside for any length of time.

🏡 Moving to San Antonio? This Is Part of the Lifestyle
