Things to Do in San Antonio This Weekend: July 31 – August 2, 2026

Summer may be winding down, but San Antonio isn't slowing down.

With many local schools returning in the next couple of weeks, this is one of the last full weekends before backpacks, homework, and busy schedules take over. If you've been looking for a reason to get out with the family, this weekend offers everything from Broadway performances and a FREE Home & Garden Show to waterparks, live music, farmers markets, and even a brand-new immersive space experience.

As an Air Force veteran and San Antonio Realtor who's helped more than 225 families relocate here, I love sharing local events that help newcomers experience everything our city has to offer. Whether you've lived here for years or just arrived, here's what's happening around San Antonio this weekend.

The Weekend's Biggest Free Event

San Antonio Home + Garden Show

If you're looking for an indoor activity to escape the Texas heat, this should be at the top of your list.

The San Antonio Home + Garden Show takes over the Alamodome all weekend with FREE admission and hundreds of exhibitors showcasing everything from home remodeling ideas to landscaping inspiration.

Families can also enjoy:

🌿 300+ varieties of plants and succulents

🛍️ Local shopping at the 210 Market Boutique

🐶 Adoptable pets

🎩 Custom hat creations

🏡 Home improvement inspiration

Even if you're not planning a renovation, it's a fun way to spend a few hours in the air conditioning while supporting local businesses.

New This Weekend

Smithsonian Starstruck: An Immersive Experience

One of the newest attractions to arrive in San Antonio opens this weekend at Rivercenter.

Starstruck is an interactive virtual reality journey created with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory that lets you travel through space, witness massive solar flares, explore distant planets, and even experience a black hole up close.

If you're looking for something unique that the entire family can enjoy while staying cool indoors, this is a fantastic option.

Broadway Fans Have Two Great Choices

Hamilton Opens in San Antonio

One of Broadway's biggest productions finally arrives at the Majestic Theatre this weekend.

Hamilton combines history, hip hop, jazz, and incredible storytelling into one unforgettable show. Opening weekend performances are expected to be some of the busiest, so don't wait if you're hoping to grab tickets.

Matilda Begins Its Run

Families looking for a kid-friendly performance should check out Matilda: The Musical at Wonder Theatre.

Based on Roald Dahl's beloved story, this production is full of humor, music, and heart, making it a great outing for children and parents alike.

Keep the Summer Fun Going

If you're not quite ready for summer to end, there are plenty of ways to squeeze in one more adventure.

FiestaLuz at Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Six Flags is debuting a brand-new nighttime drone spectacular featuring more than 175 illuminated drones dancing across the night sky. The show is included with park admission and is a great way to finish a day of roller coasters.

AquaGlow at Aquatica

As temperatures continue pushing 100 degrees, AquaGlow offers an evening water park experience with glowing slides, music, foam parties, and a vibrant nighttime atmosphere that's perfect for families and groups.

Fiesta Noche del Rio

This legendary River Walk tradition is nearing the end of its season. If you've never experienced the live music, Folklórico dancers, mariachis, and colorful performances, this weekend may be one of your last opportunities until next year.

Family Favorites Around Town

Looking for activities everyone can enjoy?

Some of the best family attractions this weekend include:

🦖 Zoorassic Park at the San Antonio Zoo

🦕 Dinosaurs in Motion at The DoSeum

🌊 SEA LIFE San Antonio Aquarium

🚤 GO RIO Summer Nights Sip & Cruise

🎭 Murder on West Moon Street in Bulverde

🎤 Corey Holcomb at Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club (adults)

These attractions offer a mix of indoor comfort and evening entertainment that work well during the hottest part of the Texas summer.

Worth the Drive: New Braunfels

If you're up for a short road trip, New Braunfels makes an excellent weekend destination.

You can spend the morning shopping the New Braunfels Farmers Market, float the Comal or Guadalupe River, cool off at Schlitterbahn, explore historic Gruene, and finish the evening with live music at the legendary Gruene Hall, where Texas favorite Bob Schneider performs Saturday night.

Farmers Markets This Weekend

If local shopping is more your style, there are plenty of markets happening across the area.

Some of my favorites include:

🥕 Pearl Farmers Market

🛍️ Market Days at La Villita

🌿 Herff Farm Farmers Market

🐐 Farmstand Farmers Market in Bulverde

🌳 The Market at Shavano Park

🎨 Pearl Sunday Artisan Market

🍅 New Braunfels Farmers Market

These are great places to support local businesses while picking up fresh produce, baked goods, handmade gifts, and unique finds.

A Few Tips Before You Head Out

With temperatures expected to reach around 100 degrees, try scheduling outdoor activities early in the morning or later in the evening.

If you're looking to stay cool, attractions like the Home & Garden Show, Hamilton, SEA LIFE Aquarium, Starstruck, The DoSeum, and Wonder Theatre all offer excellent air-conditioned escapes from the Texas heat.

Thinking About Moving to San Antonio?

One of the biggest surprises my relocation clients mention is just how much there is to do throughout the year. From live entertainment and family festivals to outdoor adventures and neighborhood events, San Antonio offers something for every lifestyle.

As an Air Force veteran and Realtor specializing in military and civilian relocations, I've helped more than 225 families make San Antonio home. My goal is to help you find not only the right house, but also the communities, attractions, and local experiences that make living here so enjoyable.

Have a fantastic weekend, stay hydrated, and enjoy one of the final weekends of summer!
